Update: Two die in crash near Rosetown

Highway 7 was blocked for seven hours while an investigation takes place and detours are in place in the immediate area.

Update 2: A man and woman from Calgary, Alta, are dead following a two-vehicle collision east of Rosetown along Highway 7 at approximately 2:48 p.m. on Dec. 7.

The initial police investigation determined a pick-up truck was traveling west and collided with a car traveling east.

The driver of the pick-up truck, a 78-year-old man, and the passenger, a 63-year-old woman, both from Calgary, were declared deceased on scene by EMS. Their families have been notified. The truck had two other occupants who were both taken to hospital for what were described to be serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Kindersley RCMP along with a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service also attended the scene.

Both lanes of Highway 7 were closed for approximately seven hours. Officers had detours in place to maintain public safety on the road. 

Alcohol and drugs were not believed to be a factor in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.

Update: RCMP say that Highway 7 is no longer blocked.

ROSETOWN - Rosetown RCMP are currently on scene of a collision on Highway 7 east of Rosetown.

Police say there are limited details available at this time. Highway 7 is blocked while an investigation takes place – detours are in place in the immediate area, but the public can expect delays.

Residents from Rosetown said that STARS Air Ambulance is in the community responding. RCMP haven't confirmed this but STARS Air Ambulance tweeted at 2:59 p.m. today that they were responding to an emergency scene call to Rosetown. 

The public can monitor the Highway Hotline for updates with regards to the road closure; however the investigation is anticipated to take several hours to complete.
