The Canora/Sturgis RCMP would like to inform the public about a Social Insurance Number (SIN) fraud that has taking place in the area. Members of the public have been getting calls advising that their SIN has been compromised and to press 鈥1鈥 for further details. The fraudsters have been using technology so it appears that a call is coming from a local Canora phone number to add credibility to their fraud. Please never give out any personal or financial information over the phone or to someone you have never met. Fraudsters can be very persuasive making you think they are with law enforcement authorities, government agencies or health care providers but rest assured none of these mentioned would ever take or ask for information or money over the phone.
