The province and the Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA) have reached a tentative four-year contract agreement for April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2017.
鈥淚 am pleased we鈥檝e reached a tentative agreement with the SMA that supports fair and competitive compensation,鈥 Health Minister Dustin Duncan said. 鈥淲e value our physicians and recognize the important role they play in providing high-quality, patient-centred health care to Saskatchewan residents.鈥
鈥淲e believe we have reached a reasonable agreement for Saskatchewan鈥檚 physicians,鈥 SMA President Dr. Mark Brown said. 鈥淭his agreement will keep us competitive with our neighbouring provinces so we can both recruit and retain physicians.
鈥淪askatchewan鈥檚 physicians remain committed to improving patient care. This agreement addresses several issues that will assist physicians to better serve their patients, continuing to improve quality and access in our health care system.鈥
The SMA Board of Directors is recommending that members accept the agreement. More than 2,200 physicians in Saskatchewan are expected to complete the ratification vote by late July. Details will be released after the ratification process has been completed.
