Preeceville staff welcomes back students for new school year

The Preeceville School staff and administration welcomed back students for another school season prior to the first day of school on September 3.

The Preeceville School administration staff were preparing for a new school season and welcoming back of students prior to beginning of the school year on August 30. From left, were: Leslea Hanson vice-principal, Doug King, principal and Laura Sliva, office administration.

The Preeceville School staff and administration welcomed back students for another school season prior to the first day of school on September 3. Students in kindergarten to Grade 9 started classes on September 3 and Grades 10 to 12 students began on September 4.

The school welcomed Leslea Hanson as she took over the vice-principal from Kipp Bayer who is the new Sturgis Composite School principal.

Preeceville staff for the 2019-2020 season are: Doug King is the principal; Hanson, vice-principal; Laura Sliva, office administration; Laurie Antonichuk, William Dodge, Kaylyn Barsby, Dallas Burym, Calla Erickson, Cary Franklin, Donna Hamilton, Tonilee Lario, Alicia Longman, Heidi Paterson, Arlene Prestie, Allyson Hull, Allyson Rock, Meghan Morton, and Erin Erickson, all teachers.

Nathan Seghers is the band instructor and Sharon Bileski is the library technician.

Educational assistants will include: Karlie Kowalchuk, Brittany Balawyder, Lisa Guliak, Ivy Krauss, Denise Olson, Lindy Steppan. Levi Young and Renaye Scheller.

Marilyn Johannesson and Patricia Wiwcharuk are the caretakers.

"The main thing that students saw this year was an upgrade to the phone system that will allow us better communication through a digital system," said King." The system is internet based so we can upgrade as needed. We lost one teacher position but gained an educational assistant. We welcome Leslea Hanson as the new vice-principal. Kaylynn Barsby is the new kindergarten teacher who will also be instructing art to middle years students. Meghan Morton is welcomed back as Grade 6 teacher," he said.

Events and activities coming up for the school include a back to school barbeque on September 13 and the Terry Fox Run will be held September 25. The football program kicked off with a fall camp on August 26 and the senior girls’ volleyball team has entered into a cooperative agreement with Kelvington School. The school also plays host to many other physical sports and academic activities.

"A new fundraising event for the school is a school raffle where each month a winner will be selected with winning a variety of community sponsored prizes. The monthly draws are scheduled to begin in September and will continue each month until the end of the school season in June," said Leslea Hanson.

Tickets are only sold until October 18 and the prizes include: September draw, a Saskatchewan Roughrider package sponsored by the Balyski family; October, hunting package sponsored by Preeceville Archery and Rocky Mountain Equipment; November, travel voucher sponsored by Vacations Yorkton-Melville by Melissa Johnson, Twilite Tire and Endeavour Hotel; December, City Get-away package sponsored by Preeceville Parts and Guang Zhou restaurant; January, planter and jewelry package sponsored by X-cessories by Kerry and Hazel Blooms greenhouse; February, school clothing voucher sponsored by the Endeavour Store and One's Cafe; March, Saskatchewan Rush ticket package, sponsored by Cary Franklin and Pita Pit; April, self-care package sponsored by Toes in the Sand, Bella Lashes and Tranquil Therapy; May, barbeque package sponsored by R.M. of Preeceville and June, Crystal Lake Golf course package, sponsored by Crystal Lake Golf course.
