Petition circulated in Kamsack calling for retention of STC bus service receives over 1,000 names

More than 1,000 district residents signed their names to a petition that was circulated in Kamsack during April calling for the provincial government to take steps to continue “to provide safe, affordable and accessible bus service” in Saskatchewan.

More than 1,000 district residents signed their names to a petition that was circulated in Kamsack during April calling for the provincial government to take steps to continue “to provide safe, affordable and accessible bus service” in Saskatchewan.

Cecelia Cazakoff and Ev Banks distributed copies of the petition in several Kamsack businesses, calling for persons objecting to the provincial budget which would discontinue the Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC), to print their names and addresses and include their signatures.

“We had 1,043 names on the petition, but some of the names were listed more than once and some people printed their names but failed to include their signatures,” Cazakoff said last week after having picked up the petitions. “But we safely have more than 1,000 names.”

Cazakoff said that the petitions that had been located in three Kamsack businesses went missing. In one case, the businessman said that the multiple-page petition had only one line left for a signature before it went missing and in the other two cases employees searched for the petitions but were unable to find them.

Cazakoff said that although their initial intent was to send the petitions to Terry Dennis, the Canora-Pelly СƵ, it was later decided that because Dennis, a member of the governing Saskatchewan Party is not obliged to submit a petition which is in opposition to a government proposal, it was decided to send it to caucus of the opposition.

“I’ve packaged up all the original copies of the petition and am mailing the package to the NDP caucus office at the Regina Legislature tomorrow,” Cazakoff said on April 27.
