聽 聽 聽Five Kamsack students and one each from Canora and Invermay were among the 19 students who were awarded entrance scholarships by Parkland College at a presentation event on September 29 in Yorkton.
聽 聽 聽The 19 entrance scholarships have a combined value of approximately $88,800, according to a release from the College. All students receiving entrance scholarships this fall are taking university, skills training, or trades programs at Parkland College.
聽 聽 聽The five Kamsack students are: Shelby Leis, who received a $500 Canadian Federation of University Women, Yorkton Chapter, Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity University Entrance Scholarship; Jarrin Musqua, $1,000, CUPE 4980 Saskatchewan innovation and Opportunity University Entrance Scholarship; Teddy Cote, $1,000, Kahkewistahaw Gas and Convenience Store Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Entrance Scholarship, and $16,234 Yorkton Tribal Council/Parkland College Saskatchewan innovation and Opportunity Studentship Award, and Twyla Cote, $16,035, Yorkton Tribal Council/Parkland College Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Studentship Award.
聽 聽 聽From Canora, Philomina Mykytyshyn received $2,500 for the Walker Wood Foundation Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship.
聽 聽 聽From Invermay, Shaelyn Serron received $1,000 in the GX94/Fox FM Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Entrance Scholarship.
聽 聽 聽These scholarships are made possible through the generosity of local businesses and organizations, community members, Parkland College staff, and the Ministry of Advanced Education鈥檚 Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship (SIOS) program, said a release from the College. SIOS is a matching program in which funds are provided on a dollar-for-dollar basis with local non-government donors. For every dollar raised locally, the province matches that dollar to support scholarships, as available.
聽 聽 聽鈥淥ur scholarship program wouldn鈥檛 exist without tremendous support from the community and the Ministry of Advanced Education,鈥 said scholarship committee chair Brendan Wagner. 鈥淎s we welcome more and more post-secondary students to our campuses, it鈥檚 vital that our scholarship program keeps pace.鈥

Internal Scholarships for students already enrolled in Parkland College programs will be awarded in March 2017. Applications for those awards will be available to students beginning in December.
聽 聽 聽Parkland College provides scholarships to students pursuing post-secondary education locally, the release said. Contributions to the Scholarship Initiative help Parkland College maintain the ability to contribute to the education and training of residents in the Parkland area.
聽 聽 聽The initiative positively impacts the lives of individuals and families, as well as communities and businesses within the Parkland region. This is the 19th year that Parkland College has offered scholarships to its students.聽
