Clayton Dearden of Edson, Alta., was sorting through papers and other memorabilia of his late mother, who died last month, and came upon this 鈥渕ost interesting old photo showing a train wreck somewhere in the Kamsack area.鈥 The photo has writing on the back saying 鈥淭rain wreck at Kamsack,鈥 Dearden said, and in different hand writing it says 鈥淜amsack Hurricane.鈥 The big hurricane (Kamsack Cyclone) was in 1944, but the photo appears to be older than that, he said. Clayton鈥檚 father, James, who died in 1987, and his family had farmed in the Kamsack area from about 1915 to 1956. His mother Hope (nee Tower), who had been from Norquay, had been teaching at Bearstream school north of Kamsack when she met James, who had recently returned from fighting in the Second World War. 鈥淚 was wondering if anyone might know when and how this train wreck occurred.鈥 Persons with information on this train wreck are asked to contact the Times with that information and it will be forwarded to Dearden.
