The community of Preeceville kicked off a week-long set of activities and events from July 10 to 13 that were based on the celebration of Old Home Week.
"The goal of the annual celebration is to provide an opportunity for former residents and guests to check out what's new in town," said Mayor Garth Harris.
Old Home Week is a practice that originated in the听New England region of the United States, similar to a holiday or festival.听 In its beginning, in the 19th to 20th century, it involved a municipal effort to invite former residents of a village, town, or city; usually individuals who grew up in the municipality as children and moved elsewhere in adulthood; to visit the Old Home, the parental household and home town.
鈥淭he idea is to have events around one week each summer so our former residents and guests can be as busy as they please while checking out what's new in town,鈥 stated Harris.
The events began with a perogy and听sausage lunch at the Preeceville Personal Care Home on July 10.
The Preeceville and District Heritage Museum hosted a successful outdoor clay oven- baked bread, jam and chilli day on July 11. Providing entertainment for the afternoon at the museum were: Willie Jakubowski and June Jakubowski, John and Vicky Kowal and Stella Holmes.
A children鈥檚 movie afternoon was held at the Preeceville Legion Hall that featured the movie Ferdinand.
The Preeceville Club 60 hosted a pie and coffee afternoon on July 12.
The Crossroads Credit Union featured toonie hotdog lunch with lemonade at Centennial Park on July 13. A sidewalk craft sale was held with four vendors: Leona Lofthang, Joanne Craig, Ronda Bilanchuk and Joanne Meberg.
