Manitoba reported 383 new cases of COVID-19 and 10 more deaths related to the virus Nov. 26.
The new deaths announced were of people ranging in age from their 50s to 90s from the Winnipeg, southern and Interlake-Eastman health regions. Chief provincial public health officer Dr. Brent Roussin said there have now been 185 COVID-19 deaths in Manitoba in November, 70 per cent of the total number of deaths since the pandemic began – 266 – and more than three times as many as were reported in October.
With the new cases announced, Manitoba has passed 15,000 positive COVID-19 tests since the pandemic began.
Twenty-nine new COVID cases were reported in the Northern Regional Health Authority on Thursday, including nine new cases in the Island lake region, six in the Grand Rapids/Mosakahiken/Moose Lake/Easterville/ChemawawinÌýhealth district, five in the Cross Lake/Pimicikamak health district and two new cases each in the in the Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry/Sherridon and Shamattawa/York Factory/Tataskweyak/Split Lake health districts. The Pas/Opaskwyak Cree Nation/Kelsey, Thompson/Mystery Lake and Bunibonibee/Oxford House/Manto Sipi/God’s River/God’s Lake health districts each reported one new case and there were two new cases from unknown districts.Ìý
The number of people hospitalized due to the virus rose by four from yesterday, to 307, including 46 people in intensive care, down by four from Nov. 25.. Sixteen northern residents are in hospital, up by four from yesterday and one of them is in intensive care.
The number of active cases in the NRHA is declining slowly, dropping to 432 today, down 11 from Wednesday.Ìý
There are currently 174 active cases in The Pas health district, 69 in the Grand Rapids/Mosakahiken/Moose Lake/Easterville/Chemawawin district, 55 in the Island lake district, 50 in the Cross Lake district, 27 in the Shamattawa/York Factory/Tataskweyak/Split Lake district and 26 in the Thompson district. The seven other districts that had active cases Nov. 26 all had totals in the single digits, totalling 31 active cases combined.
Close to half of the 843 COVID-19 cases recorded in the NRHA since the pandemic began – 405 – are listed as recovered and six people from the north have died from the virus, all in the past 20 days.
The test positivity rate for Manitoba as a whole and the Winnipeg region was 14.8 per cent but Roussin said that the rate remains much higher than that in the southern health region.
