Norquay School column

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Last week, the students at Norquay School were recovering from Easter holidays. The staff and students had a week off to enjoy themselves and take a break from school life.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Members of the travel club made their way to California over the break and visited San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles. They toured around these cities and went to exciting places like the San Diego Zoo and Alcatraz. No students got lost and the trip was a success.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 On April 24, the senior badminton team travelled to Sturgis for its first round of pre-district competition. All who are in the top two of their pool will move on to the second round of the competition.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Allison Robinson played in girls singles. She lost her first game against a Preeceville one player, but came back to win her second game against a Preeceville two player. She will be moving on to the second round.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Austin Auchstaetter and Tyson Lasko played in boys doubles. They lost their first game against the Preeceville two team and lost in a split against the Preeceville one team and the Sturgis one team. They came back to win against the Sturgis one team, but they will not be moving on to the next round.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Cody Heskin and Vienna Severight played in mixed doubles. They lost their first game against Preeceville, but won their second game against the Sturgis one team. In their next game against the Sturgis two team, they came up short in a split and will not be moving on to the next round.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Tyler Shankowsky played in boys singles and won his first three games against the Preeceville one and two players, and the Sturgis one player. He lost his next game against Sturgis two but will still be moving on to the next round of pre-districts.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Rayna Ramsay and Pyper Ramsay played in girls doubles and lost to Sturgis, Preeceville and Norquay two in a split. Unfortunately they will not be moving on to the next round.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Brooklyn Olson and Makenna Olson played girls doubles and won their first game against a Preeceville team. They lost their next game against Sturgis, but came back to win their last game against Norquay one in a split. Brooklyn and Makenna will be moving on to the next round.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Representatives of Affinity Credit Union came to our school and allowed our Kindergarten to Grade 3 students to participate in an Easter colouring contest. The students had a lot of fun and all were given chocolates as a prize.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 On April 25, the junior badminton team hosted the first round of the junior badminton playoffs. Those who advance will move on to the next round of playoffs.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Zakary Hamm played in boys singles and lost his first game against the Sturgis one player. He came back to win his next two games against the Sturgis two and the Preeceville one players. He lost his next game against the Preeceville two player and will not be moving on to the next round.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Rhoan Alfelor played in girls singles and won both of her games against the Sturgis one and Preeceville one players. She will be moving on to the next round.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Salem Johnson and Jayden Heskin played in boys doubles and they won all four of their games. They played Norquay two, Sturgis one, Preeceville one, and Preeceville two. They will also be moving on to the next round.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Dustin Shankowsky and TJ Ebert played in boys doubles as well, but came up short during their games and will not be moving on to the next round.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Hana Key and Micah Johnson played in mixed doubles. They played hard against Sturgis one and two, and Preeceville one and two, but were unable to move on to the next round.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The senior badminton team hosted the second round of pre-districts on April 26. Those who qualify for the next round will be moving on to districts which will be held in Yorkton.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Brooklyn Olson and Makenna Olson played in girls doubles and were unable to beat Sturgis, Keeseekoose and Kamsack teams. They will not be moving on to the district round.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Allison Robinson played in girls singles. She lost to Preeceville and Kamsack players, but won her last game against the Keeseekoose player. Unfortunately, she will not be moving on to the district round.

Tyler Shankowsky played in boy鈥檚 singles and lost his first game against Sturgis. He won his last game of the night against a Keeseekoose player and will be moving on to the district round.

Last week was a busy week for our Norquay School students. With badminton, travel club, and colouring contests, our students got back into the swing of things, after a well-deserved Easter break.
