The annual Memorial Ecumenical Church service in the old Mission Church two miles north of Norquay was held on August 12, and for the first time, organized by the Norquay Ministerial group.
People were welcomed in by two bagpipers, Dave Gelard and Fern Fitzberg of Yorkton.
The churches who took part were: Norquay and Pelly United, Norquay Lutheran, Norquay Ukrainian Catholic, Norquay Covenant, Norquay Roman Catholic and Pelly Fellowship Chapel.
Margaret McCallum of the United Church made the opening and closing remarks. Marlene (Jacquemart) Hamm, representing the Norquay Lutheran Church, opened with a prayer. Father Warren Dungen said the Prayer for Unity and Pastor Arden Gustafson of the Norquay Covenant Church gave the message. The Prayer for the People was given by Donna Lumley of the Roman Catholic Church. Pastor Frankie Kim of the Pelly Fellowship Chapel gave the closing prayer and benediction.
The congregation sang two hymns: The Old Rugged Cross and Great is Thy Faithfulness. Musical renditions were sung by Sylvia Negraeff of Pelly, the Pelly Fellowship Chapel group and the Norquay Ukrainian Catholic Choir.
Lunch was served outside following the service with a freewill offering given to help with expenses.
