Finally, some spring weather – halleluiah!
The annual spring information meetings for the community association and the hamlet board were well attended on April 24.
Lynn MacDonald, the association president, gave her annual report of the year's activities, followed by the treasurer’s report by Kelly Anne Ostafie. New volunteers to join the community association’s board are: Barb Coleridge, Gilda Walls and Sherry Shumay. The organization plans to have a pancake breakfast on June 4. Family memberships will be sold at this time as well. It would be appreciated to have a few more volunteers to help clean up the camp kitchen for breakfast and to help cook and serve the pancakes and sausages.
At the spring informational hamlet board meeting, residents were informed that the RM of Good Lake had agreed to an abatement of taxes for the fairways on the golf resort for this year.
The financial report for 2015 was presented as well the budget for the coming year. Councilors reported plans for a lot of roadwork that must be done in the hamlet this spring/summer. There is a need for SaskPower to look after power poles that are threatening to fall over, which would cut the electricity to our entire hamlet.
We are fortunate that the water seems to be moving through the community very well this year, thanks to work on roads and culverts last year and I hear that the threat from high water is already supposed to be subsiding.
There will be spraying for the tent caterpillars again this spring. Residents will be notified by email when this will take place. If the RM does not have your email address, please contact them.
Joan Popoff the secretary of the RM, was at the meeting representing the RM of Good Lake.
John Neufeld, RM councilor, reported that the Tiny dump was to be open on May 4 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and then every Wednesday and Sunday for the summer. Fees to use the dump is set at $5 per trailer or half-ton truck load.
In news from the Good Spirit Golf Resort, it was reported that the golf course was to open on May 2 and there are golf specials available.
A welcome has been extended to Chef Tyco Huska who will be leasing and operating Putters Restaurant this year. Huska is an experienced and creative chef who plans on bringing a new flair to the resort.
We are looking forward to a year of “great golf, great food and God willing, great weather!
The staff has been starting work early and putting in long hours on the course, cutting grass and applying water where needed. It’s paying off as the greens are green already!
Bruce Johnston, president of the senior golf club, says that senior golf was to begin on May 5 at 10 a.m. Please come early to pick teams. From then on, seniors’ golf will be organized every Tuesday and Thursday morning. All women and men are welcome and encouraged to join us!
Don Happy tells me that Monday Night Men's night will start on May 9 at 6 p.m.
