Kamsack Comprehensive Institute welcomed a new teacher recently to fill a new teaching position which was created at the school.

On January 7, Rayne Townsend of Pelly, began working as the Indigenous Student Achievement coach.

鈥淚鈥檝e worked at KCI prior to this placement, when I completed my internship under Miranda Reilkoff-Leis (school counsellor),鈥 said Townsend. 鈥淚鈥檓 familiar with the school, and I just love it here. The staff and students are wonderful to work with.

鈥淭here is only one other position in the Good Spirit School Division (GSSD) which is the same as mine, and that is at the Yorkton Regional High School (YRHS.)

鈥淭he best part of my day is working with the children, making sure they stay on point to achieve their goals.鈥

Townsend works with Grades 9 to 12 Indigenous students, and will be organizing cultural activities at the school in consultation with community elders.

Originally of Preeceville, Townsend resides with her partner, Reece Chorneyko, in Pelly and the couple have a one-year-old son, Ryan.

She comes from a family who shared a love of hunting, a pastime which she has enjoyed since age 12. Her other interests include music and dance, movies, and spending time with family.
