Last week Sadie McGriskin encouraged her mother Leanne to consider purchasing one of the Spartan Discount Cards which students are selling to raise money for the school, while giving the purchaser an opportunity to realize savings at a number of district businesses.

Kamsack and Togo residents are СÀ¶ÊÓƵ invited to obtain Spartan Discount Cards that will allow them to make purchases at discount prices in those two communities while raising money for the Victoria School and Kamsack Comprehensive Institute.

In this fundraising effort, residents buy a card for $15 which allows them to receive discounts when making purchases at many Kamsack and Togo businesses, said Amanda Burback of Togo, who developed the project through her company, Luebird Media.

Sixty per cent of the cost of the cards goes directly to the schools, Burback said. There are two dozen participating businesses which offer discounts when a consumer presents the Spartan Discount Card.

For example, with the card Buck’s Dollar Store, Kamsack Home Hardware and the Notched Branch Bistro will reimburse a customer $5 from a purchase of at least $50; Duck Mountain Motel will discount 15 per cent from the cost of a stay there; McGriskin Carpentry and Kurt the Plumber will provide 10 per cent off labour, and the Iron Grill will serve a children’s meal free of charge with the purchase of an adult meal.

At KREG’s Auto and Ag Parts and Service, one will get 10 per cent off on a set of four tires and at the Prairie Grain Bakery, one will get 15 per cent off the monthly featured product.

The other participating businesses and individuals include: Chester’s Pizza, Epicure (Margaret Tysowski), Grandma B’s Greenhouse, Kamsack Arts Council, In Good Taste, Kam-Crete Ltd., Kamsack Playhouse, Luebird Media, Pheobe’s Beauty Parlour, Rada Cutlery (Kyla Mines), Sas-Kam Sportsman, Stampin’ Up, Thirty-One (Glenda Tulloch), Tupperware (Glenda Tulloch) and Woods and Water.

One visit to one store can pay off the purchase price of the card, Burback said, adding that if she and her husband took their two children to the Iron Grill, they would pay for the two meals for the adults, and receive two meals for their children free of charge.

The Spartan Discount Card is active from April 1 to March 31, 2017, when a new card will become available, she said. “All businesses will be given a fair opportunity to participate and a new agreement will be drawn and signed for each year.

Residents interested in purchasing one of the discount cards may contact a Kamsack student or [email protected].
