Everyone has heard the old adage: “If it sounds too good to be true – it probably is.” It is one that has special meaning for Gordon Otto of Yorkton.
In his case, when he learned something that sounded too good to be true, he checked again – and again – and again…
Otto told a Saskatchewan Lotteries representative that he checked his Western 649 lottery ticket from August 19 four times before he dared to believe that he won $50,000.
“I checked my ticket on the ticket checker,” he said. “After I saw that I won, I took the ticket home and checked the numbers on the website.”
Still unable to “believe his luck” he contacted other lottery number sources to check the ticket.
“I called my brother-in-law and gave him the numbers to check,” Otto said. “He texted me a few minutes later and said, ‘You’re so lucky!’”
Otto felt the need for one more source of verification. He called the “1-800… number” on the back of the ticket and got one last person to check the ticket for him.
“I heard the ‘woo hoo’ sound on the other end of the phone and then I believed it. I won $50,000!”
With such a fun story to tell, with such a happy conclusion, Otto said he plans to use some of the money to do some renovations around the house and he is really looking forward to a vacation.
He bought the ticket at the Loaf ’N Jug in Yorkton.
