SASKATOON – A 46-year-old man accused of manufacturing restricted firearms with a 3D printer was granted bail in Saskatoon Provincial Court Monday.
Norasinh Phouikhounephinith was arrested after Saskatoon Police Guns & Gang Unit raided a home in the 200 block of 23rd Street East on Jan. 26.
Phouikhounephinith was charged with manufacturing firearms, possession of firearms for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of a prohibited device.
Saskatoon Police remind the public that it’s illegal to manufacture a firearm unless you have a proper firearms business license. 3D printed guns don’t change current weapons laws and present a risk to community safety. Lawful gun owners comply with numerous provincial and federal gun laws. Illegally manufactured weapons have no serial number and are a concern because they can’t be traced, if used in a crime, say the Saskatoon Police.
The charges against Phouikhounephinith haven’t been proven in court.
He is back in court on Feb. 15 to elect how he wants to be tried.
