After the recent purchase of the 2020 4H steer raised by Cole Marcinkoski of Canora, a member of the Springside 4H Beef Club, Gateway Co-op donated the beef, processed by Cool Springs Ranch of Endeavour, to the Filling the Gap food banks in Canora and Preeceville. Brad Chambers, Gateway Co-op general manager, said the donation was approximately 400 to 500 pounds of beef in total, and fits in nicely with the core Co-op values of supporting the needy in the community and supporting 4H, which is 鈥渂uilding our community leaders of the future.鈥 Pastor Mavis Watson, volunteer administrator of Filling the Gap Food Bank in Canora, took delivery of the beef on August 13. Watson said the donation was greatly appreciated. She is expecting increased need for the food banks in the near future, with the start of school and expected food shortages due to COVID-related issues.
