聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Canora resident Kody Rock, pitcher with the Yorkton Cardinals, was named Player of the Week for July 11 by the Western Major Baseball League.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Rock is said to be the most consistent pitcher in the league for the season, and is also the league鈥檚 leader in swinging strikeouts, with 48 strikeouts.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Yorkton Cardinals played against the Brooks Bombers on July 7 with Rock taking the mound as pitcher, and his performance has helped the Cardinals hold onto the third spot in the East division, the Western Major Baseball League said in a release. By throwing his third complete game of the season, Rock accomplished both his second shutout and a 7-0 victory for his team.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Rock faced 30 batters during the game, which is only three over the minimum, and by the end of the game, his line was a win, with nine innings pitched, zero runs, zero earned runs, four holds, zero walks, and 12 swinging strikeouts.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Currently in the season, Rock has a 4-2 record, a 1.41 earned run average, and 48 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched. Rock is now travelling with the Cardinals to Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Okotoks, Swift Current, and Melville to continue the 2016 regular season.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭he season has been going well,鈥 Rock said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 easy to pitch when the team is providing good defense.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Rock has been playing baseball since he was four years old, and continued into the sport professionally as an adult.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Western Major Baseball League issued a congratulations to Rock on their website. When not playing with the Cardinals, Rock works at the Canora Golf and Country Club with his parents, Donna and Darryl.
