KCI home economics students participate in provincial cooking competition

Four home economics students at the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute were in Saskatoon on Saturday competing in a provincial cooking competition held at the Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Four home economics students at the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute were in Saskatoon on Saturday competing in a provincial cooking competition held at the Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Selected on their academic performance and attendance to attend the competition was the team comprised of Malee Shingoose, Cassidy Aker, Jalayna Bielecki and Curyine Stonechild, said Barbara Tanner, their home economics teacher.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 An initiative of Agriculture in the Classroom and sponsored by Chicken Farmers of Saskatchewan, the Cooking Up Saskatchewan competition is an opportunity for high school students to enhance their culinary and presentation skills, Tanner said.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The team that placed first was to receive a prize of $500, while the second-place team received $300, and the third-place team, $150.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The competition had participants selecting their favourite way of showing off chicken and the KCI group decided to make a chicken fajita salad and sun-dried tomato, spinach and cheese-stuffed roasted chicken.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 At noon on Friday, prior to the KCI group鈥檚 leaving to Saskatoon, the students practiced making their meal which was judged by a panel of three teachers.聽
