KCI band students join other district students to perform in Moose Jaw

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Members of the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute beginner and junior bands combined with band members from Canora, Invermay, Sturgis, Preeceville and Norquay for a combined Good Spirit School Division Parkland Band to perform in Moose Jaw on May 19.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Included in the band were junior and beginner students from Pelly, which is part of the band program taught by Darren Kitsch, band director at KCI.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Nathan Seghers is the band director for Canora, Invermay, Sturgis, Preeceville, and Norquay. 聽

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The beginner band consisted of students in grades 4 and 5, while the junior band consisted of students in grades 6, 7 and 8.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e had approximately 35 students in the beginner band and 40 students in the junior band, Kitsch said.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Students had a chance to work with University level music educators after each performance in a 45-minute workshop on the large stage at the Mae Wilson Theater in Moose Jaw.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The students greatly improved in their level of performance as a result of the workshop, Kitsch said. 鈥淕reat Job to all the students involved.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The students also toured the Moose Jaw tunnels and enjoyed having some free time in downtown Moose Jaw.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The junior band students also stayed overnight in Regina and attended the science centre and IMAX theatre the next day before coming home.
