A “solidarity” patchwork quilt created by Roman Catholic dioceses from across Canada will be in Kamsack on June 12.

On February 10 Development and Peace, which is a division of Caritas Internationalis, launched its stitching of a solidarity quilt to highlight the organization's 50th anniversary, said a release from the Kamsack Roman Catholic congregation.

Roman Catholic dioceses from all across Canada were invited to contribute patches from its parishes in order to stitch together this symbolic quilt of international solidarity, the release said. The solidarity quilt is now travelling the country from west to east (British Columbia to Ontario) and from east to west (Newfoundland to Quebec), it said.

In support of the outstanding work of Development and Peace, the parishioners of St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church of Kamsack invite the public to join them at mass on Sunday, June 12 in order to celebrate their addition to the solidarity quilt.

Development and Peaceis the official international solidarity organization of the Catholic Church in Canada, it said. For nearly 50 years, Development and Peace has been implementing development projects in Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. In addition, through education campaigns, the organization raises Canadians’ awareness regarding the realities of populations in the Global СƵ.
