An idea proposed by a new Kamsack Power House Museum board member led to the organization of a successful fundraising event recently.
Annette Purchase of 5 Elements Artography proposed an event that would include taking photographs of attendees in 鈥減eriod costumes,鈥 and the committee put together an Ice Cream Social to include tasty sundaes served with 鈥渁ll the trimmings鈥 including cherries, pineapple and sprinkles with chocolate, strawberry, caramel and raspberry syrup and topped with two biscuits.
鈥淲e were very pleased with the turnout at our Ice Cream Social held in the NPC (Northern Petroleum Corporation) kitchen,鈥 said Darlene Brown, an organizer and Museum board member.
鈥淚t was a nice sunshiny day and we had over 50 in attendance. The program was simple with ice cream dishes served with refreshments of coffee, tea and water. The background music was provided by taped CD鈥檚.聽聽聽聽
鈥淔ive Elements with Annette Purchase provided photographs, either black and white, or colour, with some of those in attendance dressed in 鈥榩eriod dress,鈥 whatever period you desired, past or present.鈥
Museum tours were offered during the afternoon and were conducted by Jenae Berndt, the Museum鈥檚 summer student supervisor.
鈥淲e felt this event was an entertaining way to showcase the Museum. To those who participated, including Connie MacKay and Mary Vereshagin wearing beautiful flowing blue dresses, Peter and Lydia Cherkas wearing hats of long ago, Marv and Connie MacKay with their attire of past days, Roy Nabe with his coveralls, hat and pitchfork and Kamsack鈥檚 Fire Chief Ken Thompson wearing a 1950鈥檚 firefighter鈥檚 outfit, the Museum board would like to say you certainly added to the fun of the event,鈥 Brown concluded.
The Museum board members acknowledged members of the community for their support and 鈥渙ur wonderful volunteers who dished out the ice cream delicacies,鈥 saying that 鈥淣ext year will be bigger and better.鈥
