The Kamsack Gymnastics Club held its winter season registration on January 22 at Victoria School.
The Club鈥檚 winter season runs from January to April, meeting at Victoria School on Wednesdays. The active start group includes youngsters 30 months (walking) to five years, and meets from 4:15 to 5:00 p.m. The artistic group, age six and up, meets at 5:15 to 6:15 p.m.
鈥淎 full club is around 50 kids; 25 to 30 in our artistic group, and 20 to 25 in our active start group,鈥� said Megan Peters, coach. 鈥淲e still have several spots open. Our registration night was a drop-in where youngsters had the opportunity to try out the equipment.鈥�
Sandy Bedore is also a coach of the Club, and both women are assisted by several high school students who offer instruction.
Club members make use of balance beams and tumbling mats at the school and there are various themes for the classes, including 鈥渢ravelling to space,鈥� 鈥渦nder the sea,鈥澨� 鈥渁 lion hunt鈥� and 鈥渢o the zoo.鈥�
鈥淕ymnastics is a great way for youngsters to keep active, especially in winter,鈥� Bedore said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 so much better to have a club here in Kamsack rather than having to drive to Yorkton to participate in gymnastics there.
鈥淲e鈥檙e here to promote physical literacy,鈥� she said. 鈥淭he club is recreational, not competitive.鈥�
Earlier in November, the Gymnastics Club had entered what was described as an 鈥渁dorable train float鈥� in the Moonlight Madness parade to kick-off the Christmas season, taking the $100 second prize.
