The Kamsack fire brigade was called five times during the last four days of May.
The firefighting began May 28 when the brigade was called to a large grass fire in the RM of Cote south of Kamsack at about 4:30 p.m. and the crew spent about four hours at the scene, said Ken Thompson, fire chief.
At about 3:30 p.m. the next day, the brigade was called to a field fire south of Veregin where fire had been threatening vacant buildings, Thompson said. The fire was quickly contained but the crew spent about two hours on the scene.
On May 30, the brigade was called at about 2:15 p.m. by the Pelly fire brigade for mutual aid to assist fighting a large grass and brush fire burning east of Highway No. 8 near St. Philips. Crews spent about four hours on the scene.
About two hours later, the brigade was called to Madge Lake where a man had gone into the water and was presumed drowned. Although the Kamsack firefighters were at the scene for about two hours, the incident was taken over by the RCMP recovery team.
About 9:30 p.m. on May 31 the police called the brigade to attend a fire in a vacant house in Badgerville on the Cote First Nation, Thompson said. The house was fully engulfed in fire when the brigade arrived. There had been a lot of embers and dry grass in the area.
The fire was contained and SaskEnergy was able to deal with a gas line, he said. The crew spent about four hours on the scene.
