In the 2020 Saskatchewan Municipal Election, Canora voters elected a new mayor in a tight race, and chose a town council with three incumbents and three newcomers.
In the mayor race, Mike Kwas was elected the new Canora mayor with 318 votes, but Michael Davis kept the election close at 296 votes.
Elected as the six councillors were: Brad Gabora (incumbent), 384 votes; David Wasyliw, 337 votes; Kerry Trask (incumbent), 314 votes; Jacqueline Fetchuk, 291 votes; Matthew Thompson, 286 votes and Eric Sweeney (incumbent) 277 votes.
The remaining candidates included: Denise Leslie, 252 votes; Glen Leson, 240 votes; Brent Pelechaty (incumbent), 229 votes; Candace Doogan, 230 votes and Emily De Sa, 185 votes.
A total of 617 ballots were cast, down slightly from the previous general election when 738 votes were counted.
According to the 2019 Sask Health covered population numbers there are about 2,160 eligible voters in Canora, which works out to a voter turnout of just under 29 per cent.
