Hunting trophies measured at Sturgis antler measuring event

Sturgis hunters had the opportunity to see how their hunting trophies scored at the annual horn measuring day of the Sturgis branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation on December 12.

The event was held at the Sturgis Skating Arena with Blair Mitchell in charge of scoring each trophy.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Trophies brought in for scoring included: 18 white-tailed deer, one elk, one moose, three mule deer and one bear.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Dale Prestie won the 50/50 draw.

"We have had a successful season," said Rob Wilcott, president. "We have had an increase in membership from 225 last year to 266 in the 2015 season. The more antlers brought in for scoring shows that the deer population is starting to make a comeback after a few hard years.鈥

Wilcott said the main event hosted by the branch is the annual awards banquet in the spring.

The Sturgis branch is in partnership with the Preeceville branch of the SWF to use the gun range,鈥 he said.
