聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Minor league hockey players from Canora, Yorkton and Preeceville had the chance to learn new techniques and improve their skills at the annual Canora Shooting and Scoring Clinic.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The clinic was held on January 7 and organized for the second year in a row by Genevieve Shukin, manager with the Canora Minor Hockey Association. Approximately 12 hockey players at the atom level attended the event at the Canora Civic Centre, which included a video and classroom session before an ice session allowing players to practice wrist shots and deaking. The speed of players鈥 shots were measured with a radar.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The clinic was led by Jeff Cole, an evaluator with the Saskatchewan Hockey Association who coached teams in Melville, Moose Mountain, Moosomin and Estevan. He instructed players on goal scoring tactics and secrets, puck positioning, wrist movement, arm movement, weight transfer, follow through, shooting, wrist shots, snap shots, deaking, backhand shots, quick releases, freezing the goalies, shooting in stride, shooting while moving laterally, getting in position, bad angle shots and accuracy.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淎 hockey team will get about 30 to 40 shots on net in a game. This means the average player will only get about two to five shots on net. Every shot should be a good one,鈥 said Cole.
