The blowing, gusting winds of last weekend likely put a damper on many peoples’ plans, but it’s safe to say their homes and businesses stayed intact.
The same couldn’t be said for the Red Wheel Motel in Outlook, where the roof was blown completely off one of the motel units thanks to the harsh winds on Saturday, June 6, which at one point had reached speeds of 69 km/hr.
The unit was left leaning against a pair of trees on the front lawn, eventually coming into four pieces strewn about the courtyard. Manager Graham Ackeral told The Outlook that the incident happened at around 5:30 pm and that luckily no one was hurt, though the falling roof narrowly avoided a vehicle. He had made his way across the courtyard to visit with one of the tenants when he’d heard the crash, soon to discover the chaos that had befallen the Red Wheel.
Ackeral and a tenant put a tarp over the building and spent hours cleaning up debris and making the motel as secured as possible for the time СÀ¶ÊÓƵ.
