Like many other district backyard gardeners, Jack Leis of Kamsack has been busy harvesting the remainder of the produce that was grown during the summer season. Last week as he was pulling out his beets and carrots, he was interested to have discovered that one of the beet plants had yielded a root that weighed just under four pounds, and his carrots, reaching deep into the earth measured as long as 16 inches.
