The mysterious case of Sheree Fertuck, the Kenaston-area woman who went missing just over three and a half years ago, has reached a critical point as police have made an arrest in her tragic death.
On Monday, at approximately 6:30 pm, officers arrested Gregory Fertuck, Sheree’s estranged husband, who was taken into police custody without incident. He has been charged with first degree murder and committing an indignity to human remains. He remains in RCMP custody, and Fertuck will make his first court appearance in Saskatoon on Wednesday morning.
RCMP have met with Sheree’s family to inform them of these latest developments.
Speaking to media in Regina, RCMP Superintendent Derek Williams provided the crucial update on the case that has gripped the Kenaston and surrounding area since her disappearance just before the holidays in 2015.
Sheree had been last seen on December 7, 2015 after having lunch with her family at their farmhouse east of Kenaston. Her abandoned semi truck was found at a nearby gravel pit the next day with Sheree nowhere to be found, and discovered inside the truck were her keys, coat and cellphone.
An exhaustive search by dedicated volunteers found no leads, and police soon labeled the missing persons case to be a homicide.
In the spring of 2016, court documents revealed that the RCMP originally believed that Greg Fertuck was responsible for her death. However, no charges had been laid and no arrests had been made in the case at that time.
Despite the arrest of Greg Fertuck yesterday, police say Sheree’s remains have yet to be found.
