Endeavour Mayor Brad Romanchuk gave a positive view on the new year for the Village of Endeavour.
The new sign that was put up last year at the corner of Highway No. 9 and the village access road indicates a village created when the Canadian Railroad arrived in 1928.
鈥淭he railway is on the mainline to the port of Churchill and people can still board the VIA Passenger train at the village鈥檚 crossing. I invite everyone to visit the village and catch the train at the crossing,鈥 said Romanchuk.
鈥淭he goal of council is to create a friendly, welcoming, safe and peaceful community. We are monitoring traffic traveling through the community, through the village with the new electronic speed indicator signs and security cameras. We want to thank SGI for the grant that financially aided the community in support of the speed indicator signs.
鈥淔uture endeavours for the community are to enhance and expand our business community. Council will work with any and all inquires and work with new business ventures. We are currently waiting for verification from the ICIP grant application for a sidewalk rehabilitation and expansion project. We are also looking at plans for a street repaving project. Both will be two-year projects.
鈥淥ur waterworks infrastructure is over 40 years old and continues to be a challenge. Yearly upgrades have improved delivery services however the old system still has its issues.
鈥淔unding is on-going for the playground enhancement project which will replace our obsolete equipment. The project has received a gracious donation from Weyerhaeuser through the company giving a local logging contractor an honourable award with a cash donation. The logging contractor who gave the donation wishes to remain anonymous. We are accepting donations from anyone who wishes to donate to the project with tax deduction receipts issued.
鈥淥ur Osprey nest relocation program is on track and SaskPower and Forbes Brothers Construction have delivered the used power pole. A platform for the nest was built and bolted to the pole. We are now waiting for the crew to arrive to install the pole. We need to have it done by March as that is when a crane is coming to remove the nest from the cell tower. They will be installing a cone on top of the tower to help deter the birds from building on it.
鈥淎 group of Sasktel employees have formed a committee called SaskTel EnviroCare with the mandate to raise funds to assist the communities to create a wildlife green-space friendly environment. The committee has offered to help assist the village fund the relocation project. This is a huge project and hopefully the Ospreys will move to their new home," concluded Romanchuk.
