There is a bubbling of Christmas spirit at the Eaglestone Lodge personal care home, located at 346 Miles Street in Kamsack, where employees have launched the first annual Miracle on Miles Street.
The program encourages community members to send a little love in the form of gifts to residents of the care facility who have been undergoing 鈥渁n exhaustive quarantine lifestyle since March.鈥
Similar programs have created quite the buzz in previous years at other care centres around Saskatchewan, but this type of program will be a first for Eaglestone. According to staff, residents are really starting to feel the crushing effects of the pandemic. Limited family visits and outings, along with new visitor restrictions have made it difficult for many to get into the holiday spirit.
Upon hearing of the new program, generous Kamsack residents who called into the lodge were given a name and a wish list. Socks, chocolates, slippers, and pajamas were some of the wish list requests. Within just a few days, each and every resident had been spoken for.
Anyone in the area who is interested in becoming a Santa to a resident at the home can call Eaglestone at (306) 542-2620 from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to be given a name and a wish list for Santa. Socks, chocolates, slippers, and pajamas have been mentioned as some of the wish list requests.
Each unwrapped gift must be dropped off at Eaglestone by 5 p.m. on December 17. Homemade gifts cannot be accepted. According to COVID regulations, all donated items must be quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours. After that, staff will carefully wrap and label all the gifts which will be handed out to expectant residents on Christmas morning.
