Ducks float down river to raise money for summer fun

The Sturgis Kinsmen Club鈥檚 annual duck derby was another huge success with all 747 plastic ducks sold. The derby was held at the Sturgis Regional Park on June 5 with numerous families enjoying the afternoon of fun and friendship.

The Sturgis Kinsmen Club鈥檚 annual duck derby was another huge success with all 747 plastic ducks sold. The derby was held at the Sturgis Regional Park on June 5 with numerous families enjoying the afternoon of fun and friendship.

鈥淭he family day has continued the tradition of families gathering together for a fun day,鈥 said Daniel Wasylenchuk, Duck Derby chairman. 鈥淚t also represents a fun way to raise funds for local charities. This year the funds will go towards the summer fun program."

Children had the opportunity to play on two inflatable bouncy castles while their parents enjoyed hamburgers and refreshments.

Kinsmen members who helped transport and dump the ducks over the bridge were Ron Wagar, Dean Serdachny, Nathan Seghers and Shawn Howard. Catching the ducks as they crossed the finish line were Tyler Blender, Craig Folk and Chris Walker. Daniel Wasylenchuk and Eugene Boychuk were responsible for recording the results.

Jamie Lario won first with a $934 cash prize. Ron Hauber won $560 for second place. Patrick Kardynal and Megan Walker won third and fourth place, with each winning $187.
