The Sturgis Kinsmen Club annual duck derby was another huge success with approximately 680 plastic ducks sold. The derby was held at the Sturgis Regional Park on June 2 with numerous families enjoying the afternoon of fun and friendship.

"The family day has continued the tradition of families gathering together for a fun day. It also represents a fun way to raise funds for local charities. This year the proceeds will be equally divided between Sturgis Minor Ball and Sturgis Station House Museum," said Tyler Blender, duck derby chairman.

鈥淭his year worked a little different due to the low water levels in the river and the strong current,鈥 said Blender. 鈥淭he ducks were dumped into the water part way down the river and floated towards the bridge where the winning ducks were caught and identified. Kinsmen members who helped were: Chris Walker, Dean Serdachny, Tyler Blender, Craig Folk, Daniel Wasylenchuk and Brad Cameron.鈥

Neenie Mackay of Yorkton won first place, Linda Ferguson of Fort Qu鈥橝ppelle placed second, Bev Hadubiak of Canora placed third and Hudsyn Nelson of Preeceville won fourth place.
