Duck Mountain snow conditions favorable for 40th season opening

The Duck Mountain Ski Area is geared up and ready for the season opening. This year is the 40 th season for the ski hill, and the management and staff are excited to be celebrating the milestone.

This year is the 40th season for the ski hill, and the management and staff are excited to be celebrating the milestone.

Five inches of snow fell at the Ski Area around Halloween, and it stayed,鈥 said Craig Brock, now in his sixth year as manager. 鈥淲e now have an accumulation of six inches.鈥

Opening date is December 21. The Ski Area will open again on December 22, but will be closed during Christmas from December 23 to 25, opening again on December 26 to January 5.

鈥淭he regular hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.,鈥 Brock said. 鈥淭he exception is New Year鈥檚 Day, when lift hours are 12 noon to 4:30 p.m.鈥

Season passes have been available since November, and will be available for purchase at the Ski Area on opening day. Application forms are also available at Sas-Kam Sportsman in Kamsack.

鈥淭here are perks associated with 小蓝视频 a season pass holder,鈥 said Brock. 鈥淚f you need rentals, our season rental deal is only $99 per person.

鈥淭he new ski rentals are available thanks to all our local sponsors and Lake Louise ski resort.

鈥淲e wish to recognize all the local businesses that continue to sponsor the Duck Mountain Ski Hill and keep us going with their contributions. For the past few years we have had some good snowfall which has enabled us to open on time and this season is looking like it will get off to a good start,鈥 said Brock

"Little Ducks" learn to ski for kids ages five to 11 will start in mid January.

鈥淔ortieth anniversary events will be happening throughout the season,鈥 he said. 鈥淪ee our Facebook page and website, skitheduck.com for details. Boxing Day season kickoff will have games and draws during the day for the whole family.鈥

The Ski Area offers skiing, snowboarding and tubing.

The fall annual tidy and trim carried out by volunteer labour was held on the weekend of October 19 to 20.
