SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Police Service Break and Enter Unit has laid new charges in connection with several break-ins that occurred over the past 15 years. The accused, a 57-year-old man, was confirmed to be linked to the crimes by DNA evidence collected at the scenes.
Saskatoon Police Service service says the incidents date back to July 26, 2008, when police responded to a call about a break-in on the 200 block of Primrose Drive. At the scene, a damaged front door and a cash register that had been pried open were found. Investigators collected DNA evidence that was unable to be identified at the time. Similar incidents occurred between 2012 and 2020, involving the theft of computers, electronic equipment, and over $3000 in cash.
On May 5, 2021, police received information about another break-in in the 500 block of 2nd Avenue North, where approximately $11,000 worth of merchandise was stolen. Video evidence led to the arrest of a 56-year-old man on June 24, 2021. The suspect was later identified as the same person linked to the previous incidents through DNA evidence.
On Oct. 23, 2022, DNA was collected from the accused, who was now 57 years old, and matched with DNA collected from the previous incidents, leading to the additional charges of break and enter. The accused is currently serving time for the previous charges.
