District residents among Parkland College scholarship recipients

Several district residents are among the 84 students of Parkland College in Yorkton who were awarded a total of $98,900 in internal scholarships on March 17.

            Several district residents are among the 84 students of Parkland College in Yorkton who were awarded a total of $98,900 in internal scholarships on March 17.

            Combined with entrance scholarships handed out in September, Parkland College awarded over $171,000 in the 2016-17 academic year, said information from the College. This is the sixth straight year in which the College has given out more than $100,000 in scholarships.

            From Preeceville, Shayna Waite received the Board of Governors’ Saskatchewan Opportunity Scholarship, and Brooke Huska received the Gateway Co-operative Saskatchewan Opportunity Scholarship.

            From Kamsack, Mathew Kazakoff received the Boehmer Family Adult Basic Education Scholarship and Shantel Cote received the Town of Kamsack Saskatchewan Opportunity Post-Secondary Scholarship.

            From Canora, Philomina Mykytyshyn received the RH Electric Dollars for Scholars Saskatchewan Opportunity Scholarship, Elias Barteski received the Mayrand Equipment Leasing Dollars for Scholars Saskatchewan Opportunity Scholarship, Cecilia Lamb received the Dollars for Scholars Saskatchewan Opportunity Scholarship for Social Work Students, Shaelynn Bazarski received the Morris Industries Saskatchewan opportunity Scholarship in Agriculture, Julia Stiles received the Town of Canora Saskatchewan Opportunity Community Scholarship, and Dale Weinbender received the Viterra Saskatchewan Opportunity Agriculture and Bioresources Scholarship.

            Jeri Mae de Jesus of Rhein received the SaskTel Dollars for Scholars Saskatchewan Opportunity Scholarship, Brittany Hamilton of Buchanan received the Good Spirit REDA Saskatchewan Opportunity Entrepreneurship Scholarship, Brittany Siedler of Springside received the TD Canada Trust Saskatchewan Opportunity Scholarship, and Ken Hutchins of Pelly received the Town of Kamsack Saskatchewan Opportunity Trades and Technology Scholarship.

            These awards are made possible through the generosity of local businesses, organizations, community members, College staff, and sponsors and participants in the annual Dollars for Scholars Golf Classic, said the information.

            Eligible post-secondary awards are matched by funds from the Ministry of Advanced Education’s Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program, it said. Funds are provided on a dollar-for-dollar matching basis, as available, with local non-government donors.

Entrance Scholarships for students beginning Parkland College programs this fall will be awarded in September 2017.
