CPR and first aid course offered for students in Sturgis

The Sturgis School Grade 12 class participated in a CPR and first aid refresher course sponsored by the Preeceville Ambulance onMarch 26 and April 6.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭he program enhances prevention and helps students become more confident in any case scenario,鈥 said Sherry Joanette, instructor. The program offering a refresher course on life-saving techniques and proper training was made available to the Sturgis Grade 12 graduating class.

Taught by Joanette, the program was sponsored by the Preeceville Ambulance.

鈥淲e like to offer this course to the Grade 10 class and then again in Grade 12,鈥 she said. 鈥淭he Grade 12 refresher course is to help recertify the students so they have the course when they go looking for a job.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The lessons on first aid included emergency scene management, shock, unconsciousness and fainting, choking on a conscious adult, severe bleeding and medical conditions including asthma, allergies, convulsions and diabetes, upper limb, bone and joint injuries, rescue carries, burns and poisons, bites and stings.

The CPR portion included topics on unconscious choking people, cardiovascular emergencies in adults, and child and infant resuscitation.
