COVID outbreak at Eaglestone Lodge results in two deaths and 30 positive cases

In a press release, the Eaglestone Lodge board of directors reported that on December 17, the Eaglestone Lodge management was informed that a resident had tested positive for COVID-19.

In a press release, the Eaglestone Lodge board of directors reported that on December 17, the Eaglestone Lodge management was informed that a resident had tested positive for COVID-19. Public Health was notified and a response team directed by a disease control nurse with the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) was assigned to work with the home.

Subsequent testing for all residents and staff was promptly organized by Public Health who instructed any staff member that was deemed a 鈥渃lose contact鈥 with the COVID-19 positive resident to stay home and isolate.

At the time of publication,Public Health has reported the death of two Eaglestone residents due to complications from COVID-19. An additional 26 residents and four staff at the care home have tested positive for the virus. Of the residents who tested positive, the majority remain in the lodge and are stable, some with mild symptoms and some are asymptomatic. Public Health has confirmed that 10 residents have been declared recovered.

Representatives for Public Health instructed Eaglestone staff with regard to isolation protocols for residents, appropriate use of personal protective equipment, disinfecting protocols for high touch surface areas, and appropriate cleaning procedures.聽

According the release, Eaglestone Lodge management has been working closely with the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the Ministry of Health to manage the outbreak while seekingassistance with food preparation, housekeeping, and relief aids to assist the current staff providing care to residents.
