Couple charged with drug trafficking make first appearance in court

In their investigation, police seized a Lincoln, a Hyundai, cash, and drugs.

SASKATOON – Two people arrested in a drug trafficking investigation by the Saskatoon Police Crime Reduction Team made their first appearance in court Tuesday.

Norman Joseph Campbell Douglas, 42, and Tasha Marie Thompson, 39, are facing several drug trafficking and proceeds of crime-related charges.

Douglas was remanded until Oct. 4 for a show cause hearing. Thompson is back in Saskatoon Provincial Court Oct. 13.

Police say that SPS officers observed the two engaged in a suspected drug transaction in the 300 block of 4th Avenue North around 6 p.m. on Sept. 22. Police arrested them minutes later and seized $20,269 Canadian, $276 USD, 224 grams powdered cocaine, 518 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 704 hydromorphone tablets, a 2009 Hyundai Genesis, a 2013 Lincoln MKX, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.

The charges against the two haven’t been tested in court.

The Crime Reduction Team is funded by the Government of Saskatchewan through the Ministry of Justice, Corrections and Policing.
