Council adopts budget and accepts landfill site proposal

The approval of the 2021 operating budget and a proposal regarding alternative transfer station sites were among the items of interest to Town Council at its regular meeting on May 18. The 2021 operating budget was adopted and the mill was set at 6.

The 2021 operating budget was adopted and the mill was set at 6.48 mills.

Council authorized Tetra Tech to complete an additional site visit to examine alternative locations for a transfer station site at an estimated cost of $7,000.

Council accepted Tetra Tech鈥檚 proposal for the 2021 semi-annual ground water and surface water monitoring at the Town of Canora landfill site at an estimated cost of $18,907.

Council accepted, with regret, the resignation of Courtney Bourassa, administrative assistant,

effective July 31, 2021.

Council adopted the false alarm policy for in-town fire department responses.

Council set the 2021 equipment rate for the man lift of $150 per hour, and $225 per hour (OT).

Council renewed the natural gas supply agreement with Connect Energy for a term of five years commencing November 1 at a price of $3.19/GJ.聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽

A bylaw to provide for a base tax was introduced, read three times and adopted. The bylaw establishes a base tax to be applied to the types and classifications of property as follows:

  • Agricultural property: base tax for land is $1,100; for improvements, and for land and improvements the base tax is $0.00.
  • Residential property: base tax for land is $1,100, for improvements it is $0.00, and for land and improvements the base tax is $1,100.
  • Commercial and industrial property: base tax for land is $1,100; for improvements, and for land and improvements the base tax is $0.00.

Where a property is classified within one or more property classification by the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA), the base tax calculation shall be the higher of the applicable classes.

A bylaw to amend the traffic bylaw was introduced, read three times and adopted, adding the following to the heavy haul route: Daniels Drive from Norway Road to the CN rail tracks, on Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except on statutory holidays.

A bylaw to establish mill rate factors was introduced, read three times and adopted. The following mill rate factors will be applied to the uniform mill rate levied against all taxable property for municipal purposes: the factor for agricultural property will be 0.67, for residential, 0.87 and for commercial, 2.30.

A bylaw to enter into a well rehabilitation agreement was introduced, read three times and adopted.
