Conquest Planning Canada 150 Day

Village event taking place August 5

You can add the Village of Conquest as another community to visit this summer as places all over the country prepare to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday.

The celebration will be held on Saturday, August 5 as part of the long weekend, and the call is going out to all Conquest natives from far and wide to mark their calendars and come home that weekend to take in the events of the day and catch up with friends and family that perhaps you haven’t seen in years.

Though the plans are in the early stages at the moment, a pair of meetings held on April 4 and 10 produced a general outline of how the day-long event may proceed.

Food is a big part of planning anything when it comes to marking a monumental occasion, and current plans for this Canada 150 event include a pancake breakfast that morning, and the other meal of the day is currently set to be a catered supper where tickets will need to be purchased in advance.

Other activities СÀ¶ÊÓƵ discussed for the day include an afternoon social, celebratory cake, kids’ games, and a dance that night.

At this stage of planning, all signs are pointing to everything taking place at the Conquest community rink, though some things may be branched out as committee discussions progress in the near future.

For those interested in helping to plan the festivities or lend a hand where possible, the small group of people who have been meeting to discuss the celebrations have another meeting set for Monday, April 24 at 7:00 PM in the café room of the Conquest Community Centre, formerly the old school building.
