A “very successful” fundraiser was held on September 17 at the Kamsack Legion Hall.

Kamsack resident Barry Golay has been struggling with cancer since 2014. Golay, a Legion member, had also been a member of the Kamsack Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, but had resigned his position earlier this year.

“The fundraiser was hosted at the Legion but was an outpouring of love and respect for Barry who has made it his mission in life to help others,” said Judy Green, Legion member and one of the organizers of the event.

“He is one to always ‘pay it forward’ and the community and surrounding areas were more than happy to give a little back to him,” she said.

“The fundraiser fed approximately 300 people, and in addition made up about 60 meals to go.

“This was all made possible by the many volunteers who helped sell tickets, and those who donated to the fundraiser: the Kamsack Co-op;  Andy Kazakoff and his amazing donation of potatoes; others who donated vegetables; all the donations of items for the Chinese aquction and all those who helped out in the kitchen. We are all very grateful.

“A cheque for $6,550 was presented to Barry and he is truly overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity,” Green said.
