“Kamsack is a tidy community with very hospitable people.”
“Kamsack is a lovely community. It is on my list of places I could live.”
Those are two of the comments made by the two women who were in Kamsck last week touring the community as judges in the Communities in Bloom competition.
Just prior to their having taken off on an aerial view of the community on August 11, Brenda Winny of Rosetown and Marion Kelly of Unity offered some of their first impressions of the community.
“It is a tidy community. The people are very hospitable. It’s great,” Kelly said, mentioning in particular the members of the “town crew” and the “women in the garden club.
“It is very neat,” Kelly said. “Everything is in great shape.
“And you have all the amenities here,” she said, praising the decision for locating the new medical centre in the same area as the hospital and nursing home.
“This is really a family-oriented town with its parks and programs, and it has facilities for the handicapped and elderly,” Winny said. “It’s a lovely community.”
The judges had arrived in the community on August 10 when they were treated to a supper by the Kamsack and District Horticulture Association at the seniors’ centre. The next day, Councillor Rick Aikman and Kev Sumner, the recreation director, took them on a tour of the community, using a vehicle provided by Redline Chrysler, and then Leo Renaud of Prairie Soils, using an aircraft provided by Hudye Soils, took Aikman and the two women on an plane ride for a bird’s eye-view of Kamsack.
Kamsack was the third of four communities with a population of from 1,000 to 2,000 which the two judges visited last week. Their report and results indicating how each community rated, will be released in October.
