Chuckwagon and chariot races make Sturgis grounds come alive

The sounds of pounding hooves and fun echoed through the hills in Sturgis on September 3 and 4 when there were 27 entries in the chariot and chuckwagon races.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 "It was the first time in 10 years since the track and grounds were used and it was great to have it back," said Heather Jaeb.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The weekend featured chariot and chuckwagon races sponsored by the Eastern Professional Chuckwagon and Chariots Association. The Etomaine Rider Club sponsored a gymkhana event for all ages. The beer gardens and kitchen provided refreshments. O and E Concession also provided sweet treats. An inflatable bouncer kept children active.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Winners over the two days in chariot race were: Colleen Galloway, first; Colt Peterson, second, and Carol Hooge, third place.

Other racers featured were: Ivan Severight, Brett Balantyne, Larry Schnall, Bryce Young, Hayden Rooks, Wade Salmond, Travis Tasa, Lane Gosselin, Bert Buhler, Twyla Salmond, Dakota Longman, Jesse Kilborn, Cody Pegg, Peter Tourangeau, Wayne Salmond, Dakota Schnell, Colin Kilborn, Jessie Buhler, Neil Salmond, Curtis Longman and Tyler Salmomd.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 In the chuckwagon races, winners were: Curtis Longman, Colt Peterson and Floyd Hooge.

Other racers were: Kelvin Young, Lane Gosselin, Colin Kilborn, Dakota Schnell, Wade Salmond, Jordy Robertson, Bert Buhler, Hayden Rooks, Dustin Robertson, Darrel Burns, Ivan Severight, Tyler Salmond, Steven Galloway, Wade Salmond, David Farden, Ray Rooks, Larry Schnell, Wayne Salmond, Colin Kilborn, Ryan Peterson, Neil Salmond, Curtis Longman, Larry Salmond and Carol Hooge.
