The Saskatchewan Trails Association (STA) is encouraging people to find their path on June 4, in celebration of Saskatchewan Trails Day.
鈥淗eld in conjunction with International Trails Day, it鈥檚 an opportunity to celebrate our province鈥檚 recreational trails and the benefits they provide for healthy living, economic development, tourism and environmental preservation,鈥� said a release from the Association.
鈥淪askatchewan鈥檚 trail network is vast and offers something for everyone, from hikers to cyclists to ATVers to horseback riders,鈥� said Saul Lipton, STA president. 鈥淲e encourage all residents to take part in this celebration of trails and nature by going for a family walk or embarking on your own personal adventure.鈥�
To help plan this year鈥檚 Trails Day adventure, the STA invites everyone to visit to locate trails and trail amenities 鈥� including maps and GPS coordinates 鈥� available in the province, the release said. This online, searchable trails database was compiled by the STA in partnership with Tourism Saskatchewan and the Province of Saskatchewan.
鈥淎s you鈥檙e out on the trails, share your experience by using the hashtag #SaskTrailsDay,鈥� it said. 鈥淭his way, the STA will be able to find your posts and share them across the entire trails network. The STA would love to see the social media community rally behind this event.
鈥淪askatchewan Trails Day is also a great opportunity to show your support to the STA through a donation or membership,鈥� it said. The STA accepts individual and corporate donations for communities, or to the trail of your choice, to help support trail development and maintenance projects in Saskatchewan. Memberships are available for as little as $25 per year for an individual. STA members have access to trail funding and other resources, and can also attend and vote at meetings of members. The STA was established in July 2004 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the maintenance and expansion of the Trans Canada Trail and other recreational trails in Saskatchewan. The STA is also responsible for increasing trail usage and promoting trails in the province.
