In spite of melting ice and no electricity, the Togo Figure Skating Club held its annual carnival on March 6 to the theme: One in a Minion.
The 2 p.m. start to the program was delayed when the power went out shortly before show time, forcing skaters’ parents to open doors at the Centennial Arena. Immediately they scrambled to find and set up a generator and free-standing light fixtures.
As water dropped from the roof onto the melting ice in the nearly-dark skating arena, the skaters began their show with O Canada while Linda Konowalchuk, Kate Erhardt and Levi Erhardt carried the flags around the rink.
The first half of the program contained the following numbers: I Want Candy by Cage Clark, Meredith Burback and Peyton Burback; 99 Red Balloons by Maison Davis, Willow Davis and Charlotte Hendeson; What Does the Fox Say? by Jacob Burback and Max Stone; Minion Party Mix with Raeleigh Burback and Lucas Stone; Black Betty with Zachary Burback and Aiden Stone; Bad Day with Kate Erhardt and Levi Erhardt; A Thousand Years with Linda Konowalchuk, I Just Died in Your Arms with Maison Davis and Willow Davis; I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) with Jacob Burback, Levon Clark and Max Stone, and Everything I Do, I Do for You with Tamara Delawski, the coach.
After an extended intermission, the second half of the show began with Take Me to Church, a solo by Levi Erhardt. The program continued with I’m Too Sexy with Kate Erhardt and Linda Konowalchuk; Lost Boy, a solo by Maison Davis; Let Her Go, a solo by Willow Davis; Smokin’ in the Boys Room with Zachary Burback, Levi Erhardt, Charlotte Henderson and Aiden Stone; Summer Paradise by Levon Clark and Linda Konowalchuk; Cups, a solo by Kate Erhardt; a junior silver free skate solo by Hannah Delawski, a guest skater, and My Fascination with Movement by Tamara Delawski, the coach.
Shortly before the grand finale, the power was restored.
Emcee for the program was Javan Davis.
The carnival included a raffle table and the sale of 50/50 lottery tickets. Sponsors of the event included Saskatchewan Lotteries and Affinity Credit Union.Â
