The Canora/ Sturgis RCMP responded to 28 calls for service during the reporting period, some of which included two traffic collisions, seven traffic offences, one break and enter, one fraud, one theft, one criminal harassment and one mischief.

On February 12 Jake Adam of Canora was sentenced to jail time, after pleading guilty to 17 offences in Yorkton Provincial Court.

Most of the charges the 20-year-old Adam admitted to stem from a vehicle theft spree in September and October. The thefts occurred in several towns across the province which include Canora, Yorkton, Aberdeen, Colonsay, Moosomin and Whitewood as well as rural locations.

He鈥檚 been in custody since his arrest on October 27. Adam was convicted of several vehicle thefts along with thefts of tools and equipment. Some of these items stolen include tools, a tractor, a semi truck, a truck and the theft of a car. Most of the stolen items and vehicles were recovered and returned to their owners, however many sustained costly damage. Adam was sentenced to a further 12-and-a-half months in jail, to be followed by 12 months of probation.

This month, Constable Kari Pettinger, Canora RCMP member, begins her journey home to Nova Scotia to take on her new position at Indian Brook, N.S. after working in Canora since the summer of 2017.

Cst. Pettinger was very well liked by the community and by her peers at the Detachment. I have no doubt she will accomplish great things in her career. On behalf of the Canora RCMP, thank you Kari for your service to this community and surrounding area.听 We wish you all best in Nova Scotia.
