Canora/Sturgis RCMP Detachment activity report for April 30 to May 7

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 38 calls for service during the reporting period, some of which included: nine provincial statutes, five traffic offences, three assaults, two impaired drivers, two thefts, two uttering threats, one drug possession, and one break and enter.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP are looking for the public's assistance with the following crime. Between the August 1 and September 21, 2019 a Parker Hale .270 bolt action rifle was stolen from a residence in the RM of Buchanan near Tadmore. The rifle has a 5 shot magazine, Nikon 4 x 40 sterling scope attached, and is very light weight. There is also a dark stain on the left side of the fore-grip. If anyone has any information regarding this theft, please call the Canora/Sturgis RCMP or Crimestoppers.

On April 30 the Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to complaints of an intoxicated male passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle. The male driver was arrested for impaired care and control of a vehicle. Methamphetamine was also located on the male when he was arrested. The male was lodged in RCMP cells until he was sober and released for a court date.

On May 1 the Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a complaint of two young children with no supervision riding their bicycles on Highway No. 49 near Preeceville. Members attended and educated the youth involved. RCMP would like to remind all parents to speak with their children about bicycle safety and remind them that young children should still be supervised.

The Canora RCMP along with the Canora Fire Department responded to several grass fires this week that quickly got out of control due to dry conditions and strong winds. When starting a fire please be mindful and prepared for weather conditions.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP would like to thank whomever left flowers at the Canadian Flag pole at the Sturgis RCMP Detachment. This was a very kind and thoughtful gesture to honour the memory of Cst. Heidi Stevenson who was killed during the tragic events in Nova Scotia. Thank you!

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP would like to inform the public that 2020 Canada Road Safety Week runs from May 12 to 18 with National Impaired driving day falling on May 16.聽 The public should expect to see a larger police presence on the road during this week enforcing road safety.
