The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 38 calls during the week of February 18 to February 25, some of which included: four traffic accidents, six traffic offences, one impaired driver, 12 other provincial statutes, one other criminal code incident, one drug possession, one assault, one theft under $5,000, one theft over $5,000, three mischiefs, three frauds and four other incidents.

Needles discovered

On February 20, Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of needles 小蓝视频 found on a street corner in Canora. Police attended and safety disposed of the drug paraphernalia.

Garage mischief

Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint on February 23 of a mischief to a garage at Burgis Beach. The garage suffered damage after a diesel heater was believed to have been turned on by a subject not associated to the property. Target practice

Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report on February 24 that a subject had shot out a car window in Canora with a sling shot or pellet gun. The suspect was described as wearing white camo and was hiding in a tree. Police believe this was an isolated incident and no other damage was done to any vehicle or property.

Vehicle rollover

On February 24, Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a single vehicle rollover on Highway No. 9 by Ebenezer. The driver received minor injuries. Road conditions were poor at the time of the collision.

Ride and dash

Canora/Sturgis RCMP received complaint on February 24 that a taxi from Yorkton drove a male and a female to Canora who then skipped out on the fair. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to please contact the Canora RCMP or Crime Stoppers

Snowy collision

Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded with the Canora Fire Department to a two vehicle collision north of Canora on Highway No. 9 on February 24. A northbound vehicle rear ended a semi trailer after losing visibility due to blowing snow. There were no injuries.

Impaired driver

On February 24, 2020, Canora/Sturgis RCMP members pulled over a suspected impaired driver in Canora. The driver was found to be impaired by alcohol and was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operation of a motor vehicle over 80mg%. The driver also had his driver licence suspended indefinitely until matters are concluded in court and his vehicle impounded for 30 days.

Injured animal

Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report on February 25 of an injured coyote coming into the western outskirts of Canora. The Coyote left and then travelled along the tracks out of town.听 Police attempted to locate the injured animal but were unsuccessful.

Phony phone calls

Canora RCMP Detachment received numerous complaints during the reporting period about phone calls 小蓝视频 received in the Canora area from fraudsters alleging to represent the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) and the RCMP. The fraudsters are trying to manipulate and pressure victims into providing their SIN number and other personal information by threatening the use of arrest warrants.

According to CRA information, the CRA will never:

  • contact you with a pre-recorded message claiming you owe money to the CRA;
  • threaten police action or ask you to call a number to settle your tax balance;
  • make threats or use aggressive language over the phone; or,
  • demand payment during a phone call or in a message.
